Why do we celebrate the end of a year, but never the passage of a day, a hour, a minute?
My answer is that: A year is a long enough duration for people to forget where they had started, like your last year’s “New Year Resolution”.
What did I hope that I could do during the past year? I don’t even remember. But I don’t regret any bit of my 2013. So I consider that a year well done.
However, with so many challenges ahead of me in 2014, I do have things that I would like to note for this year.
First and foremost, I would start with the things I hope I could get it done. These are actually easy tasks with clearly defined targets. They are my FSA and FRM-1. There are set days and targets for these.
Secondly, there are things, or general directions, that I wish I could work towards,
1. Be a better person. (This has always been on my list. It is more like a lifelong target)
2, Be a better self. Be more open, more courageous. Take on life as it is thrown at you.
3. Be more charming.
4. Never let any unhappiness get to me.
5. Don’t take too much time reflecting, just do it!
6. Have I mentioned my daughter?
That’s all. I will review that in roughly 365 days, give or take.
“We all need to get the balance right between action and reflection. With so many distractions, it is easy to forget to pause and take stock.” said Queen Elizabeth II on this Christmas.
I rarely quote her. But I think she got it spot on this time.
